Composition Covers - A Step Up

I have seen composition covers made with other quilting designs,

 and tried it today.  Worked step 1-3 of the composition book cover, left that design for an edge to edge embroidery design.  Centered the 8x12 size and stitched.  Went back to the composition cover design and began again with step 5.  It worked great!

Thread color on this one worked well.  

Not so much on the next one.  

I still have a lot to learn about choosing the correct color for quilting.
